SoundScape is a Control Panel that plays your favorite sounds at random intervals while you are working on your Macintoshｨ.
With a cutomizable key combination, SoundScape can be turned on or off from the keyboard at any moment. The main difference between 3.0 and previous versions is that SoundScape will now load any sounds placed inside the 'SoundScape Sounds' folder within your System Folder.
SoundScape uses Asynchronous sound routines available since the Macintosh SE/30ｨ and Macintosh IIｨ family.
Installation
Move SoundScape to your System folder, choose to put it into the Control Panels folder.
Move the SoundScape Sounds folder to your System folder and put in it some Snd files.
Reboot.
Installing or Removing Sounds
When you reboot your computer, SoundScape scans the 'SoundScape Sounds' folder and loads into memory any sound files it
finds. The number of sounds SoundScape can load is only determined by the amount of memory available on your particular machine. You can add and remove sound files from this folder at any time, but changes will take place only after a reboot.
SoundScape Log
At reboot, as SoundScape scans the 'SoundScape Sounds' folder and loads the sound files, it will print the results to a text file
called 'SoundScape Log' located in your System Folder. SoundScape will log the names of the sounds that were located and loaded correctly. It will also log any problems it might encounter. The 'SoundScape Log' file is cleared and recreated for every reboot and it will not grow in size over time.
Setting the Time Delay
Open the SoundScape control panel and with the up and down arrows set the minimum number of minutes between sounds. SoundScape does not follow your setting strictly. There is always a certain degree of randomness as to when the sound will actually be played. This version allows time settings between 1 and 10 minutes. Changes will take effect immediately.
Setting the Keys for On/Off Switch
The key combination to turn SoundScape on or off from the keyboard can be customized. The default setting is Option Command, Return. To change it, open the SoundScape control panel, and click on the Set Keys button. A dialog box will appear. Press the key combination you desire and it will be displayed in the dialog box. When you have chosen one, click the OK button, or press return. The new key settings will be shown in the control panel. Changes will take effect immediately.
Turning SoundScape On/Off from the Keyboard
To turn SoundScape on or off from the keyboard use the key combination that you have set. The on/off keys act as a toggle switch. When you push these keys, SoundScape lets you know that it has responded by playing two different sounds. A high pitch to let you know that SoundScape is ON, and a low pitch to let you know that it is OFF. Using the keyboard to turn on or off SoundScape, does not affect the On/Off status of the control panel.
Distribution
SoundScape is Shareware. It can be distributed freely, but it cannot be altered in any way or sold, either as individual program or as part of a package without written permission.
You may try it free for 30 days. If after this trial period you decide to keep SoundScape, please pay the $10 registration fee. Paying the registration fee ensures that SoundScape will be supported in the future. It will also prevent a deep sense of guilt from tormenting you.
